Katy Perry Races To The No. 1 Spot On The iTunes Chart With Early Release Of 'Roar'
With her comeback single 'Roar' made available a week early, Katy Perry was able to storm in at Number One on the UK iTunes chart
Katy Perry's comeback may be more eagerly anticipated than we first thought, as her comeback single 'Roar' needed only a few hours to race all the way to the top of the iTunes chart when it was release on Sunday (1 September). The single was actually released earlier than expected, a full week in fact, as Perry apparently couldn't wait to bring out her new single any longer.
Katy's comeback single tasted immediate success when it was released early
The first single from her strangely titled upcoming third album Prism, the unexpected early release did the trick for Perry as she watched the song storm the iTunes chart and knock Ellie Goulding's 'Burn' from the number one spot. Still, she may have stormed the iTunes chart, but Perry was unable to knock Ellie Goulding from the top of the Official UK Singles chart, where she managed to stay for a third successive week on Sunday (1 September). Given the lateness of it's release, we doubt whether Katy was banking on her single doing so well in the first place, so she can probably look forward to battling for the top spot during next week's chart countdown.
Katy was equally as quick to thank her fans when she noticed the immediate popularity, taking to Twitter to write a thank you for her devout followers. She tweeted last night, "YAY UK! A week early & by popular demand you can be louder than a lion! Finally, It’s your turn to ROAR!"
Perry will be continuing her good relationship with the Brits later this month when she closes the month-long iTunes Festival at London's Roundhouse Theatre on September 30. With her album coming out less than a month after her performance in Camden (Prism will be released on October 22), there is a good chance she will be debuting a handful of new tracks as well as 'Roar,' which by that point may already be a number one single.
Perry has found a new look to go with her new material, looking just like Wonder Woman's nemesis Cheetah
