Katie Couric Is Set To Leave ABC News, Yahoo! Next Stop?
Katie Couric is set to leave ABC News after three years to join Yahoo! in a lucrative deal for an interview show.
Katie Curic joined ABC News as special correspondent and had her own daytime talk show for only the short time of three years.
But the 56 year-old doesn't want to stick around.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Couric is negotiating her exit from the network and is allegedly close to signing a lucrative deal with the internet site 'Yahoo'.
Couric will have her own interview show that will feature on the website's very busy homepage.
Katie's daytime talk show, simply called 'Katie', is in its second and most likely last season.
A decision about the show's future will be made after the studios executive's look at the November sweeps ratings.
THR also reports that Couric's news deal was worth $40 million as it included three years at ABC News and was part of a larger contract with ABC-Disney for the two seasons of hosting, but it is unclear how much the journalist will walk away with in the final exit package.
Even though there will be one more year remaining with the original deal, the news channel seems to be ready to let Katie go.
"Katie is an incredible journalist and this was an opportunity that she couldn't pass up," an ABC newser tells TVNewser. "Thanks to the powerful association between ABC News and Yahoo we know that Katie will continue to work closely with us and welcome her on our air anytime."
Couric was previously a co-host on 'Today' at rival news channel NBC for 15 years before joining CBS to anchor the 'Evening News' which she left in 2011 to join ABC.
