Katherine Heigl Does Damage Controll Ahead Of New Show: "I Never Meant To Be Difficult"

Rumours that Katherine Heigl is difficult to work with have been going around since her Grey’s Anatomy days. It may have been just the rumour mill working overtime, but Heigl wants a clean slate anyway. Ahead of the premiere of her new show, State of Affairs, Heigl has spoken out to address her less-than-flattering reputation. This is what Heigl had to say at the Television Critics Association’s summer press tour, according to Variety: “I certainly don’t see myself as being difficult. I would never intend to be difficult. I don’t think my mother sees herself as being difficult. I think it’s important to everybody to conduct themselves professionally and respectfully and kindly, so if I’ve ever disappointed somebody, it was never intentional.”

Heigl’s mother, Nancy Heigl is – coincidentally or not – executive producing State of Affairs. The Wrap reports that when Heigl was asked what her mother actually did on the show, the actress replied, “She makes us cookies.” Sounds nice enough.

But the Heigl reputation goes back a while ago. Back in 2008, Heigl had some gave a very bad, though not entirely inaccurate, critique of Judd Apatow’s Knocked Up, which she co-starred in: “It paints the women as shrews, as humorless and uptight, and it paints the men as lovable, goofy, fun-loving guys. It exaggerated the characters, and I had a hard time with it, on some days. I’m playing such a bitch; why is she being such a killjoy?” she told Vanity Fair after the film’s release.

A few years later, Heigl withdrew from Emmy consideration for her role on Grey’s because “I did not feel that I was given the material this season to warrant an Emmy nomination and in an effort to maintain the integrity of the academy organization, I withdrew my name from contention. In addition, I did not want to potentially take away an opportunity from an actress who was given such materials.”
