Kanye West Shows Up Unannounced At Odd Future Carnival For Surprise Performance [Video]
The rapper performed 'New Slaves' and 'Late' with Tyler, the Creator and Earl Sweatshirt
Kanye West took time out between his Yeezus our dates to visit the Los Angeles Coliseum, where the 2nd annual Odd Future Carnival was taking place. There, during the headlining slot from Odd Future ringleader Tyler, the Creator, Kanye emerged on stage to perform two tracks as part of his surprise appearance.
Kanye made an unannounced appearance at the festival this weekend
"I don't know what to do right now, so – can I have a hug first? I am so fucking happy," Tyler said after introducing West to the stage, mirroring similar events that happend last year when Lil Wayne made a surprise visit to the Carnival. Earl Sweatshirt came on stage too as Kanye launched into Yeezus number 'New Slaves,' before exchanging bars with Tyler and Earl on the Late Registration cut 'Late,' Rolling Stone first reported.
Recently, during an interview with Los Angeles radio station 97.1 AMP Radio, Kanye described his admiration for Tyler and the Odd Future gang, describing the upstart MC as a "a good mentor" for other aspiring rappers, adding that Tyler helped him out with some of the Yeezus merchandizing.
"He's so talented and understands things because he went to film school. I literally would like e-mail and be like, 'Can you teach me how to make videos? I want to learn,'" West told the station (via Rap-Up).
Kanye's appearance came in the midst of a series of cancellations in his Yeezus tour, which has seen him pull out of shows in Canada and parts of the US, including a Halloween show in Vancouver and gigs in Colorado, Minneapolis and his native Chicago. The rapper has cited "technical issues," related to damage done to a "custom-made video truss and 60-foot circular LED screen" as the reason behind the cancelations. The tour is due to resume on 16 November in Philadelphia.
