Julianne Moore has signed on to play President Alma Coin in 'The Hunger Games: Mockingjay' part 1 and 2. The announcement came on Friday 13th September 2013 by the film's distributer Lionsgate.

The 52 year old actress will star alongside upcoming actor Liam Hemsworth (23) who plays Gale Hawthorne and Oscar winner Jennifer Lawrence (23) who protrays the main protagonist and heroine Katniss Everdeen. Lawrence's character wins a life or death televised competition for her district which brings hope and faith to a subdued society, setting in motion the start of the rebellion.

Moore will appear in the third and fourth instalments of the science fiction franchise.

The Boogie Night's star will play a pivotal role in the film series, as Alma Coin is President of District 13 and leads the rebellion against the Capitol, trying to bring their reign of terror to an end.

'Mockingjay' is the final novel in the series by Suzanne Collins, the author of 'The Hunger Games', but the film be split into two parts to ensure the depth of the plot is executed and no detail is disregarded.

Lionsgate announced Moore joining the cast saying that she "has joined the cast of THE HUNGER GAMES: MOCKINGJAY PARTS 1 & 2 as President Alma Coin, the leader of the rebellion against the Capitol".

It further states 'The Hunger Games: Mockingjay' part 1 and 2, which will be directed by Francis Lawrence, is "slated for release in November 2014 and November 2015, respectively".

The first instalment of 'The Hunger Games' franchise is the 14th highest grossing North American film of all time earning nearly $700 million worldwide. The second instalment of the franchise, 'The Hunger Games: Catching Fire' will be released worldwide on November 22nd 2013.
