Journey - Journey Lead Singer Urges Philippines "Don't Stop Believing" With $350 000 Donation

After typhoon Haiyan caused wreaked devastation in the Philippines last week, relief efforts have been ongoing. On Friday, Journey announced that they would be donating $350 000 to the typhoon relief efforts. The group’s lead singer, Arnel Pineda, who originally hails from the Philippines, had a message for his homeland. Pineda referenced the group’s most infamous hit, when he told the nation “Don’t Stop Believin’” and that “help is on the way.”

Arnel Pineda urged the people of the Philippines to hold out hope, because "help is on the way."

The considerable donation will go to the United Nations World Food Programme and should provide about 1.4 million meals. The contributors to the sizeable donation include the group’s promoter Live Nation Entertainment, Creative Artists Agency and manager John Baruck. The donation is intended to set an example for others to hopefully join the cause.

The donation will also be backed by the group's manager, as well as their concert promoter.

Even with the UN’s relief efforts and donations flooding in, however, it will take some time for the damage done by Haiyan to be repaired. The typhoon ripped through the island nation more than 3,600 dead and displaced 615,000, according to authorities (via USA Today). Journey also called on fans to donate to the cause either at wfpusa.org or by texting the word AID to 27722 to instantly give $10.. The UN is intending to provide food and other humanitarian aid to over 2.5 million people in the country over the next six months.
