Comedienne Joan Rivers, 81, remains on life support after going into cardiac and respiratory arrest on Thursday. The outlook is increasingly grim for the Fashion Police host, whose family, including daughter Melissa Rivers is keeping watch at her bedside at a Manhattan hospital. According to TMZ, no decisions will be made about Rivers’ life in the next few days, as the younger Rivers remains “in denial” about her mother’s condition.

At this point, Rivers' life might be hanging in the balance.

The gossip website cites unnamed sources, allegedly close to the family, who claim that Melissa now “thinks everything is going to be OK.”

Meanwhile, others close to the family might have to provide a reality check, TMZ’s source claims. Friends, who are “close to Joan are starting to realize that the outcome they want is very unlikely.”

According to an unnamed source, speaking for the New York Daily News, the 81-year-old comedienne has said that she would not want to continue, unless she could "lead a full and active life."

Rivers was rushed to Mount Sinai Hospital after she stopped breathing during an otherwise routine doctor’s visit for a throat procedure. Within hours, Rivers was placed in a medically induced coma, as her doctors  attempted to assess the damage, and her daughter was expected to discuss treatment options with the medical staff.
