JK Rowling Finishes Sequel to 'The Cuckoo's Calling,' Set For 2014

JK Rowling has confirmed she has completed the sequel to her detective novel The Cuckoo's Calling and will publish it in 2014. The original book, written under the pseudonym Robert Galbraith, is expected to be the first in a projected series featuring investigator Cormoran Strike.

The Cuckoo's Calling sold only a few hundred copies before the Harry Potter was outed as the writer by The Sunday Times. It subsequently shot to No.1 on the hardback fiction charts, selling 17,662 copies last week and overtaking Dan Brown's Inferno and James Patterson's Second Honeymoon.

Speaking on 'Robert Galbraith's' official website, Rowling explained how she arrived at the name of her alternative persona, fusing her political hero Robert F Kennedy and her childhood fantasy name Ella Galbraith.

As well as confirming the sequel, Rowling joked how she successfully channelled "inner bloke," by tricking editor David Shelley into thinking a man had written the well-reviewed novel.

The Harry Potter writer - who made her adult fiction debut with The Casual Vacancy - was clearly annoyed with the leak of Robert Galbraith's real identity earlier this month, which came from a London law firm. Writing this week, she reaffirmed that it was "not a leak or marketing ploy by me, my publisher or agent, both of whom have been completely supportive of my desire to fly under the radar," adding, "If sales were what mattered to me most, I would have written under my own name from the start, and with the greatest fanfare."

'The Cuckoo's Calling' follows down-on-his-look private investigator Cormoran Strike hired by the brother of a famous supermodel to look into his sister's supposed suicide.
