Jerry Seinfeld is the latest celebrity to pay tribute to the late comedienne Joan Rivers, but he also reveals how her untimely death stopped the two from working together on the 60 year-old actor's new internet show 'Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee.'

On Monday (Sept 15th) Seinfeld took to the web series' official Facebook page and shared that Rivers was expected to be one of his celebrity guest on the first episode of the new season, and the foul-mouthed star was "thrilled" about it.

Seinfeld posted a screenshot of a "heartbreaking" text message he received on Aug 19th from Rivers' rep relaying "she would LOVE to do the show this season!"

"I had asked Joan Rivers to be our lead guest on the new season of Comedians in Cars, and she was thrilled," he captioned the photo. "Then we got a call saying she was going in for a medical procedure and needed to postpone."

In the comedy show, Seinfeld and celebrity guests drive to a coffee shop in a vintage car and engage in hilarious conversations and impromptu moments while enjoying a cup of coffee together. David Letterman, Jay Leno, Larry David, Alec Baldwin, Louis C.K., Chris Rock, Howard Stern, Tina Fey and Sarah Silverman have all appeared on the show.

Rivers passed away on August 28th

"I would have loved to have shown another side of her," Seinfeld continued. "I wanted to tell her how much I admire all she had accomplished, especially in the latter stages of her career. She was one of the greats. I'll miss her."

On August 28th, Joan was hospitalized for going into cardiac and respiratory arrest after stopping breathing during a minor throat procedure. Nearly a week after being placed into a medically induced coma, her grieving family decided to take her off a life support machine on September 4th, she passed away shortly after, aged 81.
