Jeremy Paxman In Talks With Channel 4, Jon Snow Not Under Threat
Jeremy Paxman could be heading to Channel 4.
Jeremy Paxman is in talks to join Channel 4 after leaving rival broadcaster BBC. However, it is not though that Jon Snow's position is under threat. Speaking at the Edinburgh International Television Festival, Channel 4's chief creative officer Jay Hunt confirmed she was speaking with the notorious political interviewer.
Hunt said: "I have known Jeremy for years and worked with him on Newsnight. Jon Snow should not be worried in any way. But am I in talks? Yes, of course."
Paxman was interviewed by Snow ahead of his departure from Newsnight though kept tight-lipped on whether he would be joining Channel. "I don't know Jon," he said.
Paxman announced his departure from BBC2's Newsnight in April saying he wanted to "go to bed at much the same time as most people." With that in mind, it is unlikely that he will take a full-time position on one of Channel 4's news programmes. He is already an author and historian and may instead make documentaries for the broadcaster.
The journalist and broadcaster is currently delighting audiences at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival with his debut show PAXO. The format sees Paxman talking for five minutes on a range of subjects - from Blair to Y-fronts - and has gone down reasonably well with critics.
Paxo runs at the Pleasance Theatre until August 25, 2014.
