One Google search for “Jeremy Clarkson racist” will throw up 917,000 results. And there’s a reason for that. The controversial BBC presenter has had more than his fair share of chances when it comes to blurting out bigoted comments, the latest being the whole “eeny, meeny, miny, moe catch a n-word by his toe” debacle.

Jeremy ClarksonJeremy Clarkson is getting a nice new contract, presumerably with a 'say what you want' clause

But it’s okay; he didn’t mean to say the n-word. He tried not to say it, but he just couldn’t stop it sounding like he maybe didn’t not say it. Sort of. The BBC doesn’t care either, reportedly handing him a new contract worth loads of money that’ll keep him hosting Top Gear with his mates, who also like to say incredibly racist things and get away with it, too.

All this despite all this - a brief history of Clarkson's chequered history with not saying racist things:

Back in 1998 Hyundai he told visitors to the BBC Two show's stand that its staff had all eaten dog. He also allegedly said one of the South Korean-based company's designers had probably eaten a spaniel. Also, BMW's public affairs manager Chris Willows said he had been told Clarkson had referred to Germans as Nazis. At the time, A BBC spokeswoman said: "Jeremy's colourful comments are always entertaining, but they are his own comments and not those of the BBC. More often than not they are said with a twinkle in his eye."

Referring to a car made in Malaysia, he said it was built by “jungle people who wear leaves as shoes” in April 2007. He claimed TV producers were obsessed with having “black Muslim lesbians” on screen back in October 2009.

The BBC apologised in 2011, after an episode in which co-presenter Richard Hammond called Mexicans "feckless [and] flatulent" and Clarkson joked they would not receive complaints because the Mexican ambassador would be asleep.

In January 2012 he compared synchronised swimming to the deaths of 23 Chinese cockle pickers in Morecambe Bay in 2004 and later that month he mocked the clothing, trains and food in India by driving a Jaguar fitted with a toilet through the slums. In April 2014 he took to Twitter to introduce his new dog - a black terrier he named Didier Dogba after the former Chelsea footballer.
