Jennifer Lawrence has added Top 40 artist to her list of achievements - just for a laugh, we imagine. The actress has claimed her first UK Top 40 single with new track The Hanging Tree taken from the soundtrack of The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1.

The track, scored by composer James Newton Howard, features Lawrence's vocals despite the fact that she described herself as a "tone deaf Amy Winehouse" during an appearance on the David Letterman Show earlier this month.

The single currently sits at No.29 in the UK Top 40 according to mid-week sales figures from the Official Charts Company, though the final chart position will not be confirmed until Sunday. It is not beyond the realms of possibility that the song could end up in the top 10. The third Hunger Games movie took more than £12.6 million in the UK after its release last Thursday and another strong weekend could see the song climbing the charts.

Mockingjay director Francis Lawrence (no relation) said recently that, initially, Jennifer was not particularly keen on the idea of adding a musical string to her bow. "She'd probably tell you it was her least favourite day," he told RadioTimes.com of the recording. "She was horrified to sing, she cried a little bit in the morning before she had to sing. But she did it and she did it all day - and she hated me for making her do it all day - but she did and it's great. She'll probably never really understand it because she's so sensitive about the singing."

The final movie in The Hunger Games franchise, Mockingjay Part 2, will be released in November 2015.
