Jennifer Lawrence Named AP's Entertainer of The Year 2013
J-Law tops off a tremendous year.
Jennifer Lawrence had been picked as the Associated Press's Entertainer of the Year, beating the likes of Miley Cyrus to be crowned as 2013's favourite. Jennifer Lawrence edged ahead of the perma-twerking Cyrus by one vote in The AP's annual survey of its newspaper, broadcast members and subscribers for Entertainer of the Year.

Voters in the survey were reportedly asked to consider who had exerted the most influence on entertainment and culture in 2013 and the Hunger Games actress came out on top with 15 votes above Cyrus's 14 votes and streaming website Netflix's 13.
It has been a truly successful year in the career of Hollywood's mould-breaking star. After her Best Actress Oscar win for Silver Linings Playbook in the spring plus that acceptance speech stage stumble, Lawrence became Hollywood's hottest property and one of the most-talked about celebrities.
Moviemakers quickly vied for the attention of the star who can pull off cool, quirky and sexy with such panache and this year we've seen Lawrence reprise her role as the hard-headed warrior Katniss in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire.

She has also captured the world's imagination once again in the newly released con drama American Hustle, in which she stars as a cheated wife embroiled in her con-artist husband's dealings. Already the movie has been heaped with accolades, including Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild Award nominations, with the promise of further Oscar success lying just around the corner.
Though both Lawrence and Cyrus have been prominent female figures this year, there couldn't be two more distant celebrities. Like it or not, 2013 will be forever remembered as the year of the twerk (or the year of the selfie), and it was Cyrus who brought this raunchy dancefloor move to the attention of the world when she performed alongside Robin Thicke at the MTV VMAs.

The attention-loving popstar has badgered headlines and gossip feeds worldwide which contrasts starkly with the self-effacing and more private J-Law. Unafraid to be controversial in her own way, Lawrence is laying the groundwork for what will hopefully be a future Hollywood less obsessed with image with more emphasis on raw talent.
The endlessly talented 23 year-old has emerged this year to slam those who would have had her lose weight and conform to a more desirable image at the time she was trying to make her name in showbusiness. Unconcerned with making headlines just for the sake of it, Lawrence described the furore over her recent pixie cut chop as "the weirdest thing that ever happened to [her]" and generally sets a great example to follow for young girls and aspiring actors.
As a crowning moment at the end of an unbeatable year, Jennifer's latest award is well-deserved. She'd probably prefer the attention went to someone else though.
