34-year-old Momoa is best known for his role as Dothraki warrior king Khal Drogo in HBO’s hit series Game of Thrones. Huffington Post is now reporting that the Hawaiian actor will be taking up the role of Aquaman in the Man of Steel sequel.

Although rumours are stronger than ever (and coming thicker and faster than before), Mamoa had vigorously denied back in May that he was going to play Aquaman. He told a reporter: “What does everything tell you? No. Stop asking me. It’s so annoying. Sorry, you’re not annoying.”

He later added: “You know what, I think [the rumours] started when people said ‘What superhero would you play?’ And I’d say Batman and Superman, they'd be awesome together. Then people were like, ‘He’s in Batman v Superman!’…And then some a**hole was like, ‘He’s Aquaman!’…And then it shows up on the internet. Not that it’s a bad rumour.”

Despite Mamoa’s adament denials, HitFlix are confirming that the actor will play Aquaman, although no official announcement has been made by Warner Bros, the production company who are making the movie. The site is also reporting that Zack Snyder, who is set to direct the movie, had finished designing his plan for the character. Mamoa’s rep has declined to comment.

Batman v Superman is scheduled for release May 6, 2016.
