James Franco was forced to address the situation of him attempting to chat up a 17 year-old British girl via Instagram.

The 35 year-old actor met Lucy Clode, a Scottish teen who was on vacation in New York City, outside the theatre where he is starring in Broadway's 'Of Mice and Men' on Monday (March 31st).

When the young fan asked for a picture, Franco obliged and told her to tag him on Instagram.

When Lucy did, the pair began talking to one another on the social media site and Franco asked for her number, where she was staying and if they could meet up once she turned 18.

The teen then took screen shots of their Instagram and iPhone exchange which soon went viral.

Well when appearing on 'Live! With Kelly And Michael' on Friday morning, Franco reluctantly spoke about the incident.

"I was feeling awkward - I didn't want to come on the show and just feel awkward," he said.

"I'm embarrassed, and I guess I'm just a model of how social media is tricky," he then explained. "It's a way people meet each other today, but what I've learned is you don't know who's on the other end. I used bad judgement and I learned my lesson."

The 'This is the End' actor first addressed the scandal on Twitter this past Wednesday (April 2nd), joking about hitting on the teen.

"I'm not! I hope parents keep their teens away from me. Thank you," he tweeted.

However, Franco did take a serious approach on 'Live!' and took full responsibility for his actions.

"Unfortunately, in my position - I mean, I have a very good life, but not only do I have to the embarrassing kind of rituals of meeting someone, but if I do that, then it gets published for the world," he said to the audience. "So now, it's double embarrassing."
