Harry Potter Reunion: J.K Rowling and Emma Watson Unite For Lumos Charity

They may have wrapped up the eighth and final film in the Harry Potter franchise a while back, but Emma Watson and JK Rowling were back in the magical world they created, alongside fellow Potter stars, Alan Rickman and Warwick Davies, for a charity event that raised over £1 million.

The charity, Lumos, aims to dissolve a culture of systematic institutionalized child care in Europe, reunite families, and provide loving and caring environments for children to grow up in.

"Since setting up the charity eight years ago to help change the lives of so many children living unnecessarily in appalling institutions across the world, Lumos has already helped governments to take nearly 12,000 children out of these institutions,” said Rowling, according to The Mirror.

"We have prevented the deaths of more than 400 extremely vulnerable children with disabilities, who were not receiving the care they needed in institutions. We have helped the EU change its rules on how it uses money to reform health, education and social services – and we are just beginning," she added.

The fundraiser took place at the Harry Potter Warner Brothers Studio Tour, in Watford, London. Emma Watson uploaded a snap of herself standing next to a life-size model of Hermione Granger – her character in the films – with the caption: “Still got it. #HarryptterWorld #watford".

It was attended by celebrities like John Bishop, Richard Curtis, Hugh Grant and Stella McCartney, who were bidding on a range of Harry Potter memorabilia, like the ink and pencil drawing of the Sorting Hat by J.K. Rowling herself.

Rowling continued: "There is so much more we need to do to bring an end to the institutionalisation of children. The incredible support we have received tonight will directly go towards helping achieve all this.”
