While the MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) are clearly prestigious and a desirable addition to any artists’ award collection, it would seem that they are also more than a little hazardous - as Australian rapper Iggy Azalea found out on Friday (22 August) night. The Fancy hit-maker was performing a pre-MTV VMAs concert with Charlie XCX at the Avalon Theatre in Hollywood when she backed right off stage.

Ever the professional, Iggy Azalea didn't let a little stage slip stop her set

Fortunately, she appeared unharmed and, with the help of a security guard, she was put right back on top where she carried on with her set undeterred. Clearly in good spirits, despite her unscheduled fall, Azalea posted a video of her accident to her Instagram account with the hashtag #TheShowMustGoOn.

Azalea and Charlie XCX were performing for an MTV VMAs charity benefit concert at the time of Azalea’s fall. The event, which was for Lifebeat-Music Fights HIV/Aids, also showcased performances from Sam Smith and Tori Kelly.

Azalea is up for a total of seven awards at Sunday (24 August) evening’s VMAs and is due to perform with fellow popstar Rita Ora at the event. The pair teamed up for Iggy’s newest track, Black Widow, with Rita singing the hook of the song. Black Widow will feature on Azalea’s debut studio album, The New Classic.

Of course, Azalea is not the only one who has suffered a performance mishap at the VMAs, with Nicki Minaj’s dancer bitten by a boa-constrictor during rehearsals.

As part of Minaj’s newest single, Anaconda, one of her backing dancers wrapped Rocky the six-foot boa around her shoulders like a shawl.

Rocky, who apparently has an impressive 15-year showbiz history, hasn’t had any aggression problems before but was startled at some point during the performance practice and bit the dancer’s inner arm. The dancer was treated by a medic at the scene and, although said to be ok, was taken to a local hospital as a precaution.

We can't wait to see what drama unfolds during the actual VMA ceremony!
