Eydie Gomme - Eydie Gorme, Beloved Singer Of "Blame It On The Bossa Nova," Dies Aged 84

Eydie Gorme, the beloved singer, known for her light tunes and easy listening style, has died at the age of 84. Eydie first rose to fame with her 1963 hit “Blame It On the Bossa Nova”, which was written by Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil. Eydie won a Grammy for Blame It On The Bossa Nova and she also earned praise and significant notoriety for her Spanish language recordings, including the 1964 collection of standards "Amor," which was recorded with the Mexican group Trio los Panchos.

Eydie’s big break came in the 50s, when she was cast in Steve Allen’s New York show, where she originally met Lawrence. The two collaborated for a long time on musical and comedy segments. Eventually the show became The Tonight Show, while the couple got married.

The two went on to perform and tour the country for several decades, before Eydie’s retirement in 2009, when she was 80 years old. The talented musician died this Saturday in a Las Vegas hospital. The cause is unknown. Gomme has been morned by many of her colleagues in the entertainment industry, including Steve Martin and songwriter Diane Warren, who tweeted: "Las Vegas please dim your lights tonight for Eydie Gorme. Rip."
