Hugh Jackman Is (Almost) Done With 'Wolverine'
Hugh Jackman was just as disappointed with "The Wolverine" as the fans were.
Poor Wolverine – not only is Marvel’s mot infamous mutant getting killed off in the comic books, now it looks like Hugh Jackman is done with him as well. Apparently the Aussie actor is almost finished playing his iconic steel-clawed character. We’re due to see Logan aka Wolverine in at least one more film – the upcoming X-Men: Days of Future Past. After that, the character may or may not reappear in another solo film from James Mangold, the helmer behind last year’s The Wolverine. The 2013 movie didn’t do too well in terms of reviews, but with just under $415 million in worldwide profits, there’s enough incentive for 20th Century Fox to get behind a sequel.
It's almost the end of the line for our tortured hero.
Jackman on the other hand, seems to be at the end of his rope. “I’m excited to see what we can come up with, but I haven’t signed on signed on,” the actor told SFX Magazine. “I’m genuinely at that point where unless it’s better than the last one I’m not going to do it.”
Apparently Jackman is only willing to do another Wolverine, if its on his own terms. And hardcore X-Men fans should agree that his terms would be good for the story in general. “I can still see where we can improve on the last one,” he said. “I don’t want to get into specifics, because it just upsets people, but there are certain parts of that story where I felt we were predictable. And I don’t think you need to do that with Wolverine.”
So does that mean, cut the big-time superhero stuff and focus on Logan’s personal story? That’s what Jackman seems to be saying in the next quote: “What’s exciting is that you can make it a more interior story, and people actually prefer that,” he said. “And that was good to show and convince everyone – especially everyone who greenlights the movies.”
That’s what a lot of Wolverine fans would love to see. What do you think? Should Logan get one last hurrah before he retires (or gets blown up in classic mutant fashion)?
