Helen Hunt's New Movie 'Ride' – Star Will Lead the Cast and Direct

Helen Hunt's new movie, Ride, will see the actress step behind the camera as well as in front of it, and she is set to star and direct, Deadline have reported. The multi-talented actress also wrote the film.

Filming for Ride is set to start in Los Angeles on August 5th, with filming moving onto New York later on.

It stars Luke Wilson, David Zaynes, Mike White and Brenton Thwaites and tells the story of a 20-year-old student who leaves California and his mother for the Big Apple.

50-year-old Hunt has enjoyed a long and fruitful acting career, making her name in TV’s Mad About before breaking into film with As Good As It Gets, for which she landed the Oscar for Best Actress in 1997. In addition, she has won four Emmy awards, four Golden Globe awards and two Screen Actors Guild awards.

This is Hunt’s second outing as a director – she took control of 2007’s Then She Found Me, the story of a school teacher whose mother returns while her own daughter is developing a midlife crisis. It didn’t exactly go down well with the critics, scoring 50% on Rotten Tomatoes, and the U.S Box Office didn’t respond either, with a measly $3.7m crossing hands to see the film.

So this is probably Hunt’s last attempt; another one like the last, and she might not get funding again.

helen HuntHunt will be directing her second film
