Harrison Ford's Publicist Confirms Actor Broke Leg On 'Star Wars Episode VII' Set
The 71 year-old also underwent surgery to repair his injury, which occurred from a faulty door on the Millennium Falcon, and is likely to be sidelined for up to 6 to 8 weeks.
On Thursday (June 19th), the 71 year-old actor's rep has confirmed that he actually sustained a broken leg which required surgery.
"Harrison Ford's left leg was broken in an accident," spokeswoman Ina Treciokas said in a statement to CNN.
Ford is already recovering well, but Treciokas didn't reveal how long he would be out of action.
"His surgery was successful and he will begin rehab shortly," she said. "He's doing well and looks forward to returning to work."
Although, it is expected that the injury, which occurred on June 12th, may side-line the veteran star for up to 6 to 8 weeks.
Ford's leg broke while he was shooting in the U.K. when a spaceship fell onto his leg.
Ironically it was his character's own ship's hydraulic door, from the famed Millennium Falcon, that caused the damage.
It is not yet known how this will affect director J.J. Abrams' filming schedule, but they will definitely have to "juggle things" around.
"The initial day or two after the accident it was hard to move things around but now we have had more time we can juggle things, bring some scenes forward and push others back," an insider with the production told The Mirror. "There are lots of other actors in the movie so it is not a disaster. We are still confident the film can stay on schedule."
Despite one of the main characters missing nearly two months of shooting, Lucasfilm and Disney reiterate that filming will continue as planned and there should be no setbacks.
The other two original cast members, Mark Hamil and Carrie Fisher, have joined Harrison to reprise their iconic characters in the J.J. Abrams-directed film. Newer members of the cast include Academy Award winner Lupita Nyong'o, 'Girls' actor Adam Driver, 'Lord of the Rings' star Andy Serkis and Swedish actor Max von Sydow.
