NBC's forthcoming live stage production of 'Peter Pan' has just cast the titular role! 'Girls' actress Allison Williams will have to transform into the lost boy, Peter, who flees to Neverland and learns to fly, the television network announced Wednesday (July 30th).

The 26 year-old brunette beauty will be co-starring alongside Christopher Walken, who was cast as the villainous antagonist in the iconic story, 'Hook,' earlier this month.

"I have wanted to play Peter Pan since I was about three years old, so this is a dream come true," Williams said in a statement. "It's such an honor to be a part of this adventure, and I'm very excited to get to work with this extraordinarily talented team. And besides," added Williams, "what could go wrong in a live televised production with simultaneous flying, sword fighting and singing?"

Although 'Peter Pan' is obviously a boy, it seems NBC wants to be traditional for their forthcoming live production, since the musical debuted on Broadway in 1954, a female actress would usually portray the starring role.

"We couldn't be happier that Allison Williams is our Peter Pan," said Robert Greenblatt, chairman at NBC Entertainment, via The Hollywood Reporter. "She's a lovely rising star on the award-winning show 'Girls' - where she occasionally shows off her incredible vocal talent -- and we think she will bring the perfect blend of 'boyish' vulnerability and bravado to save the day against Christopher Walken's powerful Captain Hook."

Williams has already shown that she was destined to play this role after posting her first ever Instagram photo on Wednesday, showing her dressed in a full Peter Pan costume as a child. "Thrilled to be playing Peter Pan live on NBC in December. I've been rehearsing for a REALLY long time," the caption read.

The television network will hope to repeat the success of last December's live presentation of 'The Sound of Music!,' which starred Carrie Underwood and Stephen Moyer.

The production earned mixed reviews but created plenty of excitement and intrigue. It garnered 18.4 million viewers and scored a 4.6 average rating in the adult demographic, making it the highest rating NBC production since the last episode of ER in 2009.
