Will He Or Won't He? Garth Brooks Vows To Reach Out To Irish Prime Minister About Cancelled Gigs

It turns out when Garth Brooks said he would perform “all or none” of his five shows planned in Ireland, he didn’t mean he wasn’t going to perform. The country legend has now vowed to bypass the Dublin City Council and go straight to the Irish prime minister Enda Kenny to allow him to perform at the Croke Park Stadium.

“Don’t sell a show to people and get their hopes up that you’re gonna just cancel on them.” Brooks said at a press conference (quote via The Telegraph.)

“That’s not okay with me. I don’t agree [that] that’s the way to treat people,” he continued.

So does that mean that Brooks plans to reach out to the prime minister about the concerts? There may not be enough time for drastic action, given that the cancelled gigs were previously scheduled for July 25 through 29. Earlier this week the council approved just three of the five planned concerts, due to objections from Croke Park residents. At that point Brooks’ management claimed that they had “exhausted all avenues” in their attempts to reach out to the Council and that all five shows would be cancelled and tickets fully refunded.

According to the BBC, Brooks reacted by saying that asking which concerts to play and which to cancel would be "like asking to choose one child over another".

It’s unclear what action, if any, has been taken to obtain permission for all five shows. As far as Brooks’ fans are concerned though, there is still hope. In the meantime, it looks like Brooks is holding the three approved gigs hostage, since the cancellations would cost the city approximately 50 million Euros or $68 million in refunds.

“Our guys are still en route and if there is any chance that the five planned concerts can be salvaged and nobody is being let down, then we will proceed as planned until the refunds begin,” he concluded.

According to Brooks, he would rather cancel than disappoint just some of his fans.
