Fred Durst Reportedly In Development Of Semi-Autobiographical Drama For The CW

You may know Fred Durst as the perpetually angry, 90-s influenced front man of Limp Bizkit, but apparently he has several other projects in the works. Among them, an hour-long “music drama” created for CW, the network which brought you life-affirming productions like Gossip Girl, The Vampire Diaries, Supernatural and now this.

Fred Durst, Katsuya Restaurant
Durst is attempting to break back into pop culture with a CW project.

According to the LA Times the project is set to be based on Durst’s own life and eventual rise to fame as the vocalist of Limp Bizkit. It will chronicle the band’s career through the glory days of MTV and TRL, when tracks like Break Stuff and Nookie provided the musical background to many a teenage bedroom.

Technically, the project will only bear strong influences, rather than being an outright biopic. It tells the story of a young musician, who escapes a troubled home life and launches a successful band with a unique sound. Although in the MTV days it probably would have been referred to as a “fresh” sound. The drama is being developed through CBS TV Studios, with Durst serving as co-executive producer on a script written by Miles Field. Eric and Kim have been assigned to executive produce.

Fred Durst, Mr Bones Pumpkin Ranch
This is his second attempt at a series.

Although Durst seems like a part of 90s pop culture, perhaps his own CW series might give him that much needed bit of cultural relevance. It should be noted though, that this isn’t the rocker’s first crack at a TV series. In 2010, he collaborated with the Tannenbaums on the attractively titled sitcom “Douchebag” – this one centered on an aging rock star, struggling to balance his career with his family life. Once again, the story sounds familiar. Apparently Durst has a flare for semi-autobiographical shows.

Durst has also been working on his social media presence.
