Fifty Shades Of Grey Fans Petition For Casting Changes

Fans of the Fifty Shades of Grey trilogy are in uproar following the casting announcements on Monday. Dakota Johnson and Charlie Hunnam will be playing Anastasia Steele and Christian Grey in the film adaptation of E.L. James' raunchy novels.

Fans may have their own ideas about who should portray the characters of E.L. James' bestselling series. However, it seems unlikely anything will change despite the outcry. The film's producer, Dana Brunetti, has defended the casting; tweeting in mock surprise of the negative comments. He went so far as to accuse those attacking the casting decision of not being "true fans".  

So who do fans want to see replace Johnson and Hunnam?

One petition, posted on Change.org wishes to see Alexis Bledel (Gilmore Girls) and Matt Bomer (White Collar) in the roles of Grey and Steele. The petition, posted by an unknown user, has gained over 27 000 signatures. The reason this group of fans are urging an alteration to the casting is because "Matt Bomer is the PERFECT DESCRIPTION OF CHRISTIAN GREY AND ALEXIS BLEDEL IS THE PERFECT ACTRESS TO REPRESENT ANASTASIA STEELE". They continue by emphasising that "if THEY ARE NOT, NOBODY WILL BE". The writer of this petition "assures" the reader that the two are the "perfect actors" for the movie. 

Tragically, the writer goes so far as to state the "Greysessed" (I love a neologism as much as the next person - but seriously?) and "Bomerettes" (again - seriously?) do want merely want but NEED these actors in the film. They go on to state "we can do anything guys, anything."

That's good to know. I'm sure those petitioning to end less important issues such as world hunger, poverty or the destruction of the rainforest will be encouraged by such a statement. 

Anyway, enough on the bizarre behaviour of the fans; Hunnam and Johnson beat off stiff competition to win their roles. According to THR, Ryan Gosling was the ideal Grey and Shailene Woodley. Others considered for the role of 21-year-old Anastasia Steele include Felicity Jones (Like Crazy), Alicia Vikander (Anna Karenina), Imogen Poots (Jane Eyre) and Elizabeth Olsen (Liberal Arts). Other possible Greys included Garrett Hedlund (Troy) and Christian Cooke (Cemetery Junction).
