The latest actor rumoured for the part of Christian Grey might not fit the popularity level, but he does have the looks.
Charlie Hunnam quit the Fifty Shades of Grey project a few days ago, but the ripples of his exit are still being felt throughout the internet. This is mostly because, as of today, there is still no news as to who will replace the Sons of Anarchy actor and take on the role of Christian Grey. One fan favorite for the part seems to be Matt Bomer, although he hasn’t publicly expressed any interest and his name reportedly doesn’t feature in Universal’s uber-secret list of Christian Grey hopefuls.
Hunnam's exit has thrown the production in a state of chaos.
Said list includes a few actors, whom Universal chairman Donna Langley, producers Michael De Luca and Dana Brunetti, director Sam Taylor-Johnson and author EL James are reportedly considering for the role, now that they are left in a desperate scramble to replace Hunnam in time for the start of filming – November 1. This oh-so-secretive list – part of which was nonetheless revealed by The Hollywood Reporter – also includes British TV stars Jamie Dornan, 31, and Christian Cooke, 26.
E.L. James even had Robert Pattinson in mind at one point.
Another candidate reportedly under consideration is True Blood’s Alexander Skarsgard, although following Hunnam’s conspicuous exit, his involvement isn’t likely. Meanwhile, THR reported today that Dornan is emerging as the frontrunner for the part. The young actor’s credentials so far include a modeling gig for Calvin Klein, a two-year relationship with Keira Knightley and a role on ABC’s Once Upon a Time. This experience, added to his dark hair and 1.80m height should make his a suitable candidate for the part. Hopefully this will serve to appease 50 Shades fans, disgruntled by Hunnam and Dakota Johnson’s casting.
Jamie Dornan is the current favorite for the role.
