Eric Clapton has apologised for storming off at Glasgow’s SSE Hydro, while fans of the rock legend have demanded refunds on their tickets – some of which cost up to £125 – despite missing just one song.

Eric ClaptonFas have demanded refunds after Clapton's walk-off

The information on Clapton’s walkout is quite contradictory. Reports suggest he left the stage suddenly mid-way through the song Cocaine. He did not return and the audience eventually left with, many claimed, no explanation of what happened. Others say he popped back on to apologise, while Clapton’s spokesperson explained the usual set lasts 1h35m, but also claims fans enjoyed the entire set apart from cocaine, despite the storm-out occurring just after the one-hour mark.

“Unfortunately last night we experienced a steadily worsening technical problem with the PA system that the band battled with throughout the show. But by the last song of the set it became unbearable on stage and Eric was unable to complete that number,” explained Clapton’s spokesperson.

“During the encore break we were able to reset and the band finished as planned with the last number. The usual touring set length runs at 1hr 35 mins so in fact the full set was performed apart from the entirety of Cocaine which had to be curtailed. Eric is nevertheless sorry for the break in the concert.”

A spokeswoman for the Hydro arena said: "The production team for last night's performance suffered a technical issue which resulted in the concert ending earlier than anticipated. "By the time the venue had been made aware of the circumstances patrons were already leaving the bowl. However, our stewards and staff did their best to convey this information to customers as it became known."

Are some of the best musicians in the world, they could have got some mikes and came on and just did a jamming session for the last 35 mins, but no explanation, the young guy selling programme looked stunned as everyone was leaving and the staff new nothing about what was happening.

I agree with the comments below - went off during "Cocaine" came back said sorry about that and played a number and then went. Whilst it was a great gig up until then it did not feel that this was the encore - no thank you and good night sort of thing. We were sent email by the hydro saying that the show would finish at 10.45pm. There was no information given to the audience many of whom were still sitting in their seats finishing their drinks. The hydro staff were pleasant friendly and helpful but did not appear to know anything. We were asked to leave the arena and finish our drinks in the foyer.

We were on the floor in front of the mixing desk, the noise behind us was like someone playing the cymbals and it was not Henry Spinetti, EC did say "sorry about that" when he returned but there was no further explanation. I don't blame EC although he could have said what the problem was and the crowd would have understood. The Hydro management made no announcement and in fact half an hour after it finished the stewards still could not tell us what happened, so they are lying to say otherwise. Having checked their Facebook page(their website is inoperable) the sound has been rubbish since last October when fleetwood Mac were performing. If this is Scotland's newest and best venue, bring back the Appolo in Glasgow and similar venues as fans will not continue putting up with a crap venue at top end cost.
