Could 'Endless Love' Be A Good Valentines Day Movie? [Trailer]

You know the drill; a film is released on Valentines Day – it’s really bad but attracts plenty of couples looking to check out a goofy love story with no real meaning.

It’s tradition. But could Endless Love be the film to throw the odds books into the fire? It certainly looks like another sloppy romantic drama, if you watch half of the trailer, but the second half plunges us into some sort of Shakespearian thriller.

Does it actually… look… good?

Even the story will strike you as the well-trodden romantic fodder than has kept the masses entertained for decades. Rich teenage girl falls for working class, hands-on hunk, but girl’s father hates said hands-on hunk.

It’s a remake of 1981 film of the same name, but, unless you really know your film apples, this might be a fresh take on a tired genre for you.

After convincing himself that David Axelrod (Alex Pettyfer) is no good for his daughter, Jade Butterfield (Gabriella Wilde), Hugh Butterfield – the father, played by Bruce Greenwood – starts looking into his past. It is then that his decision is vindicated, and he starts protecting his daughter, by any means necessary.

The original, 1981 film was universally panned by the critics. Despite that, it faired well with the box office, grossing $31,184,024 in the U.S. alone, making it the 22nd highest grossing film of 1981.

It also spawned the infamous song by Lionel Richie and Diana Ross, Endless Love, which was nominated by the Academy for Best Song. It was beaten by ‘Arthur’s Theme (Best That You Can Do)’ from ‘Arthur’, with music and lyrics from Burt Bacharach, Carole Sager, Christopher Cross and Peter Allen.
