Is 'Ender's' Game Worth Your Money This Weekend? Let's Ask The Critics
Check out Ender's Game, it's better than you think it is
Tomorrow’s a big day: The iPad Air is out, Halloween is done for another year, and Harrison Ford stars in the cinematic remake of Orsen Scott Card’s sci-fi epic, Ender’s Game.

The former will affect gadget freaks, people with money and Apple employees; Halloween ending affects us all – it just doesn’t really matter – but how will Ender’s Game’s release affect you: should you go and see it?
The project was generally considered to be a risk, with Scott Card’s book standing strong as a science fiction classic. What’s more, the controversial author’s homophobic views threatened to land the movie – as a whole – in a dark cloud.

But, despite a few niggling glitches, the critics have rewarded director Gavin Hodd’s efforts with a set of positive reviews.
“Against considerable odds, this risky-sounding Orson Scott Card adaptation actually works, as director Gavin Hood pulls off the sort of teen-targeted franchise starter Summit was hoping for,” said Variety in their review.
Peter Bradshaw of the Guardian – more used to awarding off-beat arthouse films with the highest scores, found something to like in Ender’s Game.
“The movie's apocalyptic finale indicates that it's bitten off considerably more than it can chew in terms of ideas, but it looks good, and the story rattles along,” he wrote.
“Whatever you make of the book's widely derided author, Ender's Game is one of 2013's more thematically original stories, with a compellingly icy lead performance from Asa Butterfield,” adds Catherine Bray of Film4 .
So, generally: yes, Ender’s Game is worth a look this weekend, but mainly because there aren’t many other releases to steal its thunder on Nov 1st.
