Emma Stone has joined Joaquin Phoenix in the cast for Woody Allen's next movie. The currently untitled project will be written, produced and directed by Allen, following the director's Oscar winning movie Blue Jasmine.

Plot details are unknown but Variety report that the movie will shoot this July. It is also without a distributor, though Sony Pictures is the front-runner, given its allegiance with Allen on numerous of his previous projects.

With Stone and Phoenix, the cast is actually shaping up pretty nicely. It's the first time that Woody has worked with The Master Oscar-nominee, though he directed Stone in the upcoming Magic in the Moonlight.

Stone remains one of the most popular young actresses in the world and her latest movie The Amazing Spider-Man 2 just grossed $91.6 million at the domestic box-office.

She recently completed work on Alejandro Gonzalez's comedy Birdman, about a washed up actor (Ed Norton) who once played an iconic superhero. He must overcome his ego and family trouble as he mounts a Broadway play in a bid to reclaim past glory.

It's safe to say Hollywood is a little wary of aligning itself too closely with Allen at the moment, given his step-daughters accusations of sexual abuse. However, Diane Keaton is the most recent high profile star to back the acclaimed director, and Stone and Phoenix clearly have no qualms in the working with him.
