Ellie Goulding is one of the freshest faces in pop music today, but this wasn't always the case.

The 27 year-old has recently opened up about her youth, and admitted to taking drugs and dressing as a Goth when she was a teenager.

Goulding, who grew up in a council estate in Lyonshall, Herts, made these revelations while being interview by Michael Parkinson for a Sky Arts documentary, according to The Mirror.

The 'Burn' singer said, "I very nearly did go down that path, I was a bit of a rebel when I was 14."

"People would call me a goth, I had long black hair which was real, I had piercings and I liked heavy metal music, and the rest of it," she added.

When Parkinson asked, "Any drugs?"

Ellie shamefully shrugged and replied, "Yeah. I definitely had a period of drinking and being a bit crazy. I had no idea what my future was going to be then."

The 'Goodness Gracious' singer has definitely come a long way since her childhood, and her status as a global superstar was solidified when Goulding performed in front of the Royal Family at William and Kate's wedding.

But she did admit to being terrified leading up to the event.

"It was the scariest moment of my entire life," she recalled. "Actually we were about to play Your Song, I looked at my guitarist Chris and he looked at me and then everyone piled into the room and it was the most nerve-wracking moment."

Adding, "But I knew I had to hold it together 'cos I really wanted it to be perfect. Something happened and suddenly the fear came off."

Ellie's future looks even brighter as her latest studio album 'Halcyon' is No.2 on the UK Album Charts, and last month she won her first BRIT Award for Best British Female Solo Artist.
