The news that Ellen Page is gay is important to the public for one reason: she’s a celebrity, and can – by her actions – influence public opinion towards equality. But she’s an actress, and what we really want to know is what movies she’s working on.

X-Men: Days of Future PastEllen Page in X-Men: Days of Future Past

Her biggest upcoming project is X Men: Days of Future Past, in which the 26-year-old plays Kitty Pryde/Shadowcat - a mutant with the ability to phase through solid objects and a part Page thought she’d never play again.

I didn’t expect to play Kitty Pryde again, so when that came up and I met with Bryan, because I didn’t work with Bryan I worked with Brett Ratner [on 'The Last Stand'], it was just awesome,” she explained to Collider back last summer.

“I feel so grateful to be back… Really, truly, it’s not like something I’ve known for a year by any means. I really didn’t know that long before we went to shoot,” she added. Days of Future Past will be out on May 23, 2014.

Aside from X-Men, which is now in post-production, Page has two other movies in pre-production: Into The Forest and Freeheld.

Into The Forest will see Patricia Rozema direct. It’s based on Jean Hegland's novel of the same name and will star Evan Rachel Wood alongside Page – the pair will play sisters who struggle to survive after the collapse of society in a not-too-distant future.

"Over 30 miles from the nearest town, and several miles away from their nearest neighbor, Nell and Eva struggle to survive as society begins to decay and collapse around them. No single event precedes society's fall. There is talk of a war overseas and upheaval in Congress, but it still comes as a shock when the electricity runs out and gas is nowhere to be found,” reads the book’s blurb.

“The sisters consume the resources left in the house, waiting for the power to return. Their arrival into adulthood, however, forces them to reexamine their place in the world and their relationship to the land and each other.”

In Freeheld, Page plays a New Jersey car mechanic called Stacie Andree whose police detective girlfriend Laurel Hester – played by Julianne Moore - is diagnosed with a terminal illness. The pair has to battle to secure Hester's pension benefits following the news. Zack Galifinakis has also joined in a supporting role.
