You Don't Need Additional Tickets to Relive Magic of 'Edge of Tomorrow'

We got pretty excited when the first reviews of Edge of Tomorrow started trickling in a couple of weeks back. Perhaps we were just surprised that what on the face of it appeared a formulaic action sci-fi movie was actually an original, hard-hitting, humorous blockbuster. Perhaps we were just happy for good old Tom Cruise.

The Rotten Tomatoes score of 95% has since eased to 90% but this still marks a significant success for both Warner Bros and Cruise. The action unfolds in a near future in which an alien race has hit the Earth in an unrelenting assault. Major William Cage - an office who has never seen a day of combat - his dropped into what amounts to a suicide mission and dies within minutes. However, Cage finds himself in a time-loop forcing him to live out the same brutal combat day in, day out. It's Groundhog day, with aliens, basically. After a strong showing in various international markets, Edge of Tomorrow gets a U.S release on Friday (June 6, 2014) and the critics are uproarious.

"A smarter-than-expected script turns this noisy sci-fi action movie into something remarkably entertaining. A-list stars, solid actors and whizzy effects aside, the dialogue is packed with clever observations that are both mind-bending and unexpectedly hilarious," wrote our very own Rich Cline.

"Walks a tricky tightrope: We chuckle when Rita shoots Cage like a fallen racehorse so the day can restart, but every time he jolts back to life we feel for his gulping, startled agony," said Amy Nicholson of L.A Weekly.

"Only toward the climax, when the live/die/repeat cycle is abandoned, does Edge of Tomorrow go logy. But it's two-thirds of a sensational ride -- one you can ride over and over without buying additional tickets," said Richard Corliss of TIME magazine.

"Despite its terribly unimaginative title, Edge of Tomorrow is a surprisingly imaginative summer action movie," said Chris Nashawaty of Entertainment Weekly.

"A Tom Cruise action flick with a strong female heroine and a sense of humor? "Edge of Tomorrow'' has both of those, plus a "Groundhog Day''-style gimmick that pays big dividends. Over and over," wrote Lou Lumenick of the New York Post.

So, in other words, you're going to want to check out Edge of Tomorrow this weekend.
