E! Issues An Apology To Michael J. Fox For Offensive 'Fun Fact' Remark

Michael J. Fox, like many other high-profile Hollywood stars, was attending this Sunday's (Jan 12th) 2014 Golden Globe ceremony.

As the A-listers were arriving at the award show at the Beverly Hilton Hotel, California, they step onto the red carpet for a flurry of questions and photographs where they are exposed to the world's media.

E! was conducting a standard pre-award show, which usually discusses nominations, the arriving stars and who is wearing what, but the television network made an embarrassing error.

When Michael J. Fox arrived, who suffers from Parkinson's disease, E! broadcast a rather offensive 'fun fact' aimed at the nominated actor.

The 'fun fact' that could be seen on the bottom left-hand side of the screen said, "FUN FACT: Michael J. Fox was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease in 1991."

E! regretted their decision to air the remark and issued an apology, obtained by The Hollywood Reporter, on the same day which read;

"We regret the insensitive classification of Michael J. Fox's Parkinson's diagnosis during our Eonline [sic] live stream. We understand the serious nature of the disease and sincerely apologize."

The 52 year-old was nominated for 'Best Actor in a Comedy for his role in 'The Michael J. Fox Show', where portrays a TV anchor and dad who is in an ongoing battle with Parkinson's disease.

This was the first regular television role Fox had taken in nearly 13 years after leaving 'Spin City' due to his declining health problems associated with Parkinson's disease.

A backlash followed, on twitter, against E! for the remark with many users on the social media site uploading a screen shot of the offensive remark.
