From Duck Dynasty To Politics? Willie Robertson 'Should' Run for Congress
He won't be the first celeb-cum-politician if he takes on the challenge.
Willie Robertson is being encouraged to run for congress in Louisiana following his popularity from Duck Dynasty, the A&E reality TV show. “My boys want to run Willie Robertson for the seat," said a key outside advisor to House GOP leadership, according to The Washington Examiner.
The seat has been the seat given up by retiring Republican Rep. Rodney Alexander, and the word is that Roberton has the reputation and popularity to regain the seat for the republicans. While a spokesman for the Robertson family didn't return a request for comment, it is thought the TV celeb won’t want to leave his current situation and dive into the minefield that is the political game.
"Yup, I think it is a D.C. thing right now," said a GOP official, who added, "Why would a multi-millionaire, TV sensation give up that work to run for a congressional seat?" Another House advisor said, "Celebrity candidates are very appealing to inside-the-Beltway consultants and reporters, but they usually run lousy campaigns. That, and Louisiana tends not to favor celebrity candidates."
Duck Dynasty – which lead with the tagline “Money.Family.Ducks” – was a real American favorite. It presented the public with the Robertsons' rags-to-riches story, something that went down well, and some political figures want further implanted in the locals’ brains by putting one of its stars in a position of relative power. Having gone three seasons, Duck Dynasty is set to go a fourth, the premiere of which will premiere tonight (Aug 14).
