'Duck Dynasty' Star Willie Robertson Planning On Moving Into Politics?

Willie Robertson, the self-described 'redneck millionaire' star of A&E's hit reality series Duck Dynasty might be the next famous face to make the leap from television to politics. A report from the Washington Examiner published on Monday (12 August) states that the reality star is being courted by some operatives from the Republican Party to potentially become their next big name representative.

The retiring Republican Rep. Rodney Alexander is leaving behind his post in Louisiana and reports state that Robertson is fast emerging as one of the prime candidates for the vacant seat. Alexander will leave his seat in September to go work in Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal's cabinet and a one-off election in September will take place to determine who will replace him, and it looks as though the Republicans have already found their preferred suitor. Should he be chosen as the Republican candidate, Robertson will be competing to represent Louisiana's 5th District, which includes most of the northeastern and central portions of the state, including the cities Alexandria and Robertson's native Monroe.

Still, in spite of this interest, it doesn't seem as though Willie is quite ready to take the leap into politics and so far he has shied away from the GOP's approaches. An outside advisor to the House GOP leadership told WE that his party members are trying to tie down Robertson for the seat, but at the moment it is looking unlikely that he will leave behind his life as a successful businessman and television sensation for the hustle and bustle of Washington D.C.. The insider said, "I think it is a D.C. thing right now. Why would a multi-millionaire, TV sensation give up that work to run for a congressional seat?"

Willie stars alongside his father, Phil, uncle, Si, and brothers Jase and Jep in the hit A&E series about the family behind successful business Duck Commander; a hunting company that first found success through the manufacture of duck calls. It follows the inner workings of the company and the everyday lives of the down-to-earth redneck family and has so far run for three seasons, with a fourth set to air on the network on 14 August.
