Dr Dre Splashed $40 Million on Tom Brady's Pad, But There's a Caveat

Dr Dre has lodged on offer of around $40 million for Tom Brady and Gisele Bundchen's Los Angeles mansion, according to TMZ.com. Tom and supermodel Gisele listed the 18,700 sq. ft Brentwood estate for $50 million after barely spending any time living in the place. They basically built the house from scratch, spending $11.75 million on the building in 2008 before severely redesigning the place to their own tastes.

Insiders say there were "multiple interested parties ready to put offers on the house" but Dre swooped first with a solid offer, which Tom and Gisele decided to accept. Sources say the deal is not yet closed, but it's very close.

The high profile couple were offering the house fully furnished, but insiders from Dre's crew say the Beats guru wants to put his own stamp on things and only part with the cash on the proviso that he can bring his own furniture with him. Most of the stuff was furniture and artefacts that Brady has spent years collecting from various trips around the world.

Dre's new house boasts five bedrooms and NINE bathrooms.

As for Dre's finances, he was recently listed in Forbes richest hip-hop stars with an approximate net worth of.wait for it.$550 million. He's second only to Diddy or Puff Daddy, who's worth a cool $700 million.

Dre is currently readying his Daisy streaming service with Nine Inch Nails' Trent Reznor.

The Plot

The official synopsis for the film reads: "In the mid-1980s, the streets of Compton, California, were some of the most dangerous in the country.  When five young men translated their experiences growing up into brutally honest music that rebelled against abusive authority, they gave an explosive voice to a silenced generation.  Following the meteoric rise and fall of N.W.A., Straight Outta Compton tells the astonishing story of how these youngsters revolutionised music and pop culture forever the moment they told the world the truth about life in the hood and ignited a cultural war.”

That Casting Call

Earlier this week Sande Alessi Casting sent out a casting call inviting L.A. based women to auction for a part in the film. The problem was, they decided to divide the women into four categories based on their appearance. The call, subsequently published by gawker.com listed the categories as: "A) "Hottest of the hottest. Models" (open to women of any race) B) "Fine ... Beyonce is a prototype here" (light-skinned women)  C) African American girls ... Medium to light skinned with a weave D) "These are African American girls. Poor, not in good shape. Medium to dark skin tone.” Unsurprisingly Universal sent out an apology, distancing themselves from the call saying that they “did not approve and do not condone the information in this casting notice.” While a representative for Sande Alessi Casting told TMZ the ad was an "innocent mistake”, adding that when it came to casting the "poor" people, they were also looking for women of various skin tones and body types. Sande Alessi also stated that they did not mean to “offend” with their descriptions.

What Was Universal Thinking with 'Straight Outta Compton' Casting Call? 4290699 News

Universal has apologized after an agency working on its behalf issued an offensive casting call for the N.W.A biopic Straight Outta Compton, asking for woman in four different categories based on their attractiveness and ethnicity.

NWA Straight Outta Compton

Sande Alessi Casting posted the open call earlier this week, inviting L.A based woman to audition in one of four categories. The call, quoted by Gawker.com, requested A, B, C or D girls. It read:

"A) "Hottest of the hottest. Models" (open to women of any race)

B) "Fine ... Beyonce is a protoype here" (light-skinned women)

C) African American girls ... Medium to light skinned with a weave

D) "These are African American girls. Poor, not in good shape. Medium to dark skin tone."

Universal Pictures and the filmmakers behind the biopic have distanced themselves from the casting call. The company issued a statement late Thursday that "...the filmmakers ... did not approve and do not condone the information in this casting notice. We regret and sincerely apologize for being in any way associated with the offensive descriptions it contained."

A representative for Sande Alessi Casting told TMZ that the ad was an "innocent mistake" that that when it comes to casting the "poor" people, they're also looking for women of various skin tones and body types. The company says the A, B, C, D grouping system is its usual method to look for different types of people and is not meant to offend.

Directed by F. Gary Gray (The Italian Job), Straight Outta Compton is set for release in 2015 and will focus on N.W.A's huge influence on rap music. Relative newcomers O'Shea Jackson Jr, Jason Mitchell and Corey Hawkins will play Ice Cube, Easy-E and Corey Hawkins respectively.

Eminem's Wembley Stadium Gig Loses Itself In The Sheer Size of The Place 4287162 News

Eminem didn’t want to perform at Wembley Stadium, the 90,000-seater home of the English national football team. Instead, he wanted to be part of the Hyde Park British Summertime lark but was refused due to the content of his lyrics.

And Wembley stadium didn’t want Eminem to attempt to fill it either, despite being used to the fruity vernacular of the Detroit rapper - his first gig in the capital since 2001 will forever be remembered for sound issues.

By all accounts, it sounds as though the sound equipment wasn’t exactly doing Eminem any favours as he tried to fill the mammoth stadium with rap for the first time in its history as a convert venue. Members of the audience on Friday night criticised the poor speaker system, which left them struggling to hear Shady’s rhymes.

Wembley Stadium issued a statement following the event. It said: "We are aware of some sound issues from earlier tonight and have monitored & adjusted it where necessary. We thank you for your patience." And, according to Digital Spy, emails directed to the stadium have reportedly been met with a response claiming that "best efforts were made to rectify sound and to contact promoters" followed by the obligatory apology for any inconvenience.

Many reviews mention the unfortunate sound fidelity, but according to The Financial Times, Eminem’s performance rose when Dr. Dre hit the stage. “The intensity levels went up a notch, the rapper spitting out rhymes with rapid-fire changes in tempo and manically dashing around the stage. The light show came into its own when darkness fell, accompanying old hits such as “My Name Is” and “The Real Slim Shady”, redone as big stadium-rap numbers with singalong chants. Wembley’s first rap headliner had battled his way to a draw,” read Ludovic Hunter-Tilney’s review.

So Eminem is still a thing. Despite the rapper’s career deflating slightly after the 00s, he is still big. Big enough to fill Wembley Arena with screaming fans. In fact, Slim set sort of a record Friday, being the first rapper to ever perform at the massive London venue. Technically, he shared the honour with Dr. Dre, since the rapper/producer joined his former protégé for a couple of songs. Dre treated fans to a couple of vintage track, including Still Dre, Nuthin’ But A ‘G’ Thang and Forgot About Dre.

Eminem
At 41, Eminem is still going strong and powering through shows.

And he wasn’t the only one helping out Eminem at Wembley. The rapper also brought out Danny Brown and Odd Future to open for him. So overall, it sounds like fans got more than they bargained for with the gig. There was a clear theme to the show, the same one Slim’s been playing on for a couple of albums now: do not mess with Marshall Mathers. He opened with a triple hit of Bad Guy, Square Dance and 3AM.

He obviously knows his fanbase though, as the show quickly moved on to the sing-along (rap-along?) classics like The Way I Am, My Name Is and Without Me. And of course, Shady’s first London gig couldn’t end with anything other than his favorite closer, Lose Yourself. He then repeated the act on Saturday night. Eminem kicks off his US tour with Rihanna on August 7th.

NWA Biopic Straight Outta Compton Gets a Release Date 4251147 News

The NWA biopic, ‘Straight Outta Compton’, has a release date and a first-look picture courtesy of the collective’s most successful solo breakout artist, Dr Dre. He announced on Twitter that the Universal project will be released on 14 August 2015.

The film will tell the story of the seminal hip-hop group which was made up of Dr Dre, Ice Cube, DJ Yella, MC Ren and the late Eazy E. Dr Dre and Eazy E will be played by newcomer actors Corey Hawkins and Jason Mitchell, while Ice Cube's son will take on the role of his father.

“Finally found the cast for the NWA movie. Me, Gary Gray, Dre w/ Cube, Eazy & Dre #StraightOuttaCompton coming 8/14/15,” tweeted Ice Cube, following up Dr. Dre’s initial Tweet. Cube also included the cast photo.

The official synopsis for the film reads: "In the mid-1980s, the streets of Compton, California, were some of the most dangerous in the country.  When five young men translated their experiences growing up into brutally honest music that rebelled against abusive authority, they gave an explosive voice to a silenced generation.  Following the meteoric rise and fall of N.W.A., Straight Outta Compton tells the astonishing story of how these youngsters revolutionized music and pop culture forever the moment they told the world the truth about life in the hood and ignited a cultural war."

N.W.A - an abbreviation of Niggaz Wit Attitudes – disbanded in 1991, leaving members like Dr. Dre and Ice Cube to go on and forge hugely successful solo careers. But the group’s influence, from their use of funk beats and bass-heavy riffs to underlay their hard-hitting lyrics left an indelible mark on the hip-hop landscape.

Apple to Buy Dr Dre's Beats Electronics For $3.2 Billion. That's BILLION. 4189834 News

Technology giants Apple are hoping to wrap up a $3.2 billion deal to buy Dr Dre's Beats Electronics, according to various media reports. Negotiations are thought to be at an advanced stage and a deal could be confirmed as soon as next week.

Dr DreDr Dre Is Selling Beats

Should the deal go through, it will be Apple's biggest ever acquisition. It is being seen as a move by Apple to get a stronger foothold in the phone and music accessories market and the company has actually be selling Beats headphones in its stores for some time.

More: Watch out Spotify, Dr Dre's Daisy is coming for you

James McQuivey, an analyst with Forrester, has questioned the movie, saying there was a big overlap of customers between the two firms.

"This is really puzzling," he said. "You buy companies today to get technologies that no one else or customers that no one has.

"They must have something hidden under the hood."

Beats was founded by Dre and music producer Jimmy Iovine and until recently was best known for his headphones, However, it recently started its own subscription-based music streaming service.

The reported $3.2 billion is a huge premium on Beats' previous valuation of $1 billion, further pointing towards a more complex deal than is being reported. Last September, the company got a $500 million investment from the Carlyle Group.

Later this year, Dr Dre will launch his Spotify rival 'Daisy' - which he's been developing with the Nine Inch Nails singer Trent Reznor.

Dr Dre Is Hip Hop's First Billionaire, Meet Hip Hop's Five Richest Artists 4187595 News

We hope there's no hard feelings! Dr Dre has overtaken Sean Combs AKA Puff Daddy (or is it P. Diddy, or Puffy, or Diddy?) to become hip hop’s richest man. The rapper has finalised a deal with Apple to sell his stake in Beats Electronics, which will give him a personal fortune of $800 million. Apple are allegedly purchasing Beats Electronics, which produce the popular Beats headphones, for $3.2 billion.

Dr Dre Billionaire 49 year old Dr Dre has become hip hop's first billionaire earner

Upon hearing the news Dre picked up a few bottles of champagne and headed down to the studio with friends Tyrese and F. Gary Gray, where he partied the night away, at one point announcing, “The first billionaire in hop hop…right here from, the mother f**king West Coast!”

Dre’s recent deal with Apple nudges him to the top of the Forde’s list of richest hip hoppers, although the lineup has changed up, these five are still the richest hip hop artists in the world.

2. Puff Daddy

Dre usurped the top spot from Sean Combs, who is worth an estimated $700 million. Combs has amassed most of his cash from non-music related business deals, including his clothing lines ‘Sean John’ and ‘Sean by Sean Combs.’ Dre should watch his back though, Diddy’s Revolt TV began broadcasting this year and could potentially rake him in a lot more dollar.  Perhaps he’ll be hip hop’s second billionaire? The race is on.

3. Jay Z

Shawn Carter, or Jay Z, as he’s mainly known, has a personal fortune of around $520 million (and that’s not including wife Beyonce’s bank balance). Jay’s $150 million deal with Live Nation played a huge role in the bulk of his fortune, although he’s always expanding his business.

4. Birdman

Co-founder of Cash Money Records, rapper and producer Bryan “Birdman” Williams, is worth a whopping $160 million. As a rapper, Birdman has produced numerous tracks and albums along with Lil Wayne and makes up one half of rap duo Big Tymers.

Dr Dre Splashed $40 Million on Tom Brady's Pad, But There's a Caveat 4183744 News

Dre is currently readying his Daisy streaming service with Nine Inch Nails' Trent Reznor.

P. Diddy's dog is dead 4161137 News

P. Diddy's pet dog has died.

The 44-year-old rapper - whose real name is Sean Combs - has been left devastated following the passing of his beloved golden-haired pooch, Honey, yesterday (18.04.14).

Diddy broke the news on Instagram last night after posting a picture of the adorable dog with the caption: ''Today was one of the saddest days of my life. I said goodbye to my dog Honey. Who was always there for me. #RIPHoneyCombs love you and you are missed already (sic)''.

However, the 'Last Night' hitmaker's heartbreak didn't stop there though as he shared another snap of him lying on the grass staring into the canine's eyes, just two hours later.

He accompanied the photograph with the caption: ''GOODBYE MY FRIEND!!!!! #HoneyCOMBS RIP! To whoever has lost a Pet I feel your pain! I thank God for givin me a friend like you ! (sic).''

Meanwhile, Diddy - who has five children from previous relationships - topped Forbes' list of the five wealthiest artists in hip-hop this year - beating Jay Z and Dr Dre - with a worth of $700 million, but it seems no amount of money could take away the pain of losing his dog.

Dr Dre & Jimmy Iovine Set Out To Conquer The Music Streaming Market With 'Beats Music' 4032953 News

Dr Dre was already a legend by the time he first released his Beats By Dre headphones in late 2008 and since then he has surpassed the levels of music immortality to become one of the business world's most looked up to entrepreneurs. Dre and his Beats business partner Jimmy Iovine are launching their own online streaming service later this month, with plans on owning the music streaming market the same way they have dominated the headphone market.

Uplike Beats headphones, you can't wear Beats Music around your neck to let everyone know how cool you are

The subscription-only Beats Music will be launched on 21 January and will go head to head with Spotify, Pandora, Grooveshark and the rest, including soon to be launched services from Google and Neil Young, in a bid to add another bow to their business hat. The Beats enterprise hopes to do this by using their team's own musical know-how to sell their catalogues of music to the public. For example, the new service will work by using expert-made playlists rather than relying on algorithms to point listeners in the direction of new music, in addition to other potentially groundbreaking methods.

"Everything in my life has been about sound and making music, so Beats represents just that," Dre told Time magazine in a recent interview. "Everything that I do is for sound goals. It comes from my gut. When I’m sitting in the studio, a mix isn’t done till I feel it in my gut. It’s been the same way from the beginning, even when I was DJ’ing, if I heard a song that I wanted to play that I thought would be great in the club that night, I’d have to feel it in my gut. It’s a little bit hard to explain — I guess that’s the best way I can explain it. That’s what me and Jimmy were going for when we were tuning these headphones. It’s just a way that it makes you feel, and we’ve had that experience because of being in the studio for so long. That’s all it is."

The Beats service won't be like other music streaming sites

As much as their business venture is based on making a presenting music in the way they wanted, Iovine went on to say that the streaming service didn't just come about randomly, as he said that he and Dre had planned on launching a streaming service from the start of their business venture. He said, "It was always part of the original plan. I personally have been thinking about streaming since 2000. But once we had the opportunity with the brand," with Dre following up saying, "I realized at a young age that sequence in an album is almost as important as the songs that are on the album. And I know that got lost on the Internet with people just being able to go on and buy one song, but I think now we’re going to apply that system back into the listening experience."
