Disney Reveal 'Cinderella' Live Action Reimagining: How Dark Will It Be? [Trailer]
Let's hope Lily James' glass slipper isn't actually made of glass though...ouch!
Disney has revealed the first teaser trailer for the upcoming live action reimagining of the classic fairytale, Cinderella. Starring Lily James in the titular role, Cinderella is set for release in April 2015 and will also feature Cate Blanchett, Hayley Atwell, Helena Bonham Carter, Stellan Skarsgard, and Richard Madden.
A New Teaser Trailer Heralds Disney's Upcoming Reimagining Of The Classic Tale Of 'Cinderella.'
Disney's 1950 animated take on the tale is probably the most well-known version of the story, which has its roots in 17th century folklore, and the studios is set to reimagine the legend for a modern audience with actors instead of animation.
The film is directed by Sir Kenneth Branagh, who many young people will recognise from his role as Gilderoy Lockhart in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. Game of Thrones' Richard Madden will play the handsome prince to Downton Abbey's Lily James' servant girl-turned-ball attendee who catches the eye of said prince.
Helena Bonham Carter ('Sweeney Todd') will play the Fairy Godmother who tells Cinderella she shall go to the ball and gives the servant and the fabled pumpkin a glamorous makeover. Cate Blanchett ('Blue Jasmine') will take the role of the formidable Lady Tremaine, Cinderella's wicked stepmother who pampers her own daughters whilst forcing Cinderella to toil.
The movie landscape is now far removed from that of Disney's first take of Cinderella 64 years ago, which famously glossed over some of the old tale's more dark and gory aspects that can be found particularly in the Brothers Grimm's version.

However, the movie studios is a lot more adventurous nowadays in terms of presenting its young viewers with challenging content, such as in the Sleeping Beauty retake, Maleficent, meaning we could see such famous scenes as the ugly stepsisters cutting off their toes to fit the glass slipper then getting their eyes pecked out by doves as punishment for their abuse of their stepsister.
Disney's Cinderella will be released in April 2015.
