Walt Disney Studios have a host of exciting new movies in store for fans of action, comedy and adventure in this next year. Details of new and upcoming movies were announced at the Disney Comic-Con equivalent. Fans in attendance were treated to thrilling new film news, including a sneak-peek from Kenneth Branagh's live action Cinderella, clips from Marvel movies Thor: The Dark World, Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Guardians of the Galaxy, and Angelina Jolie's appearance to talk about her first movie since Kung Fu Panda 2, Malificent, but there was sadly no new Star Wars: Episode VII gossip.

Fans booed as it became evident that nothing new would be given away regarding the forthcoming JJ Abrams-directed Star Wars sequel. The crowd were told a series of already known announcements, according to Digital Spy. The movie, due for release in 2015, has reportedly recruited some of the original cast, including Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher.

However, the focus of the event was surely Angelina Jolie's upcoming role in 2014's Malificent: the movie that will trace the turn to evil made by the infamous Sleeping Beauty baddie. All eyes were on Jolie who took to the stage at a Saturday presentation to talk about her first film role since her double mastectomy. "Since I was a little girl, Maleficent was always my favorite," Jolie told the 4,000 fans about her live action role.

"I was terrified of her, but I was so drawn to her. I wanted to know more about her," confessed the 38 year-old actress who also added that her 5 year-old daughter Vivienne was cast as the young Princess Aurora because she was the only one who wasn't scared of Jolie dressed in her black horns. "One little kid even said, 'Mommy, please tell the mean witch to stop talking to me,'" she claimed.

The movie will open in theaters on 2nd July 2014 and Jolie will star alongside Elle Fanning, Juno Temple, Sharlto Copley and Imelda Staunton. Robert Stromberg, the effects supervisor behind Walk The Line and Pan's Labyrinth, directs the film that sees the titular villain change from a pure-hearted young girl whose heart is turned to stone after enduring a ruthless betrayal when the kingdom she loves is invaded by an army.

D23 guests were shown "enchanting" footage from new Tom Hanks movie, Saving Mr. Banks, reports Rope of Silicon. The biopic will star Hanks as Walt Disney alongside Emma Thompson who will play English author P.L Travers; writer of Mary Poppins. Sean Bailey, president of Walt Disney Studios motion picture production, spoke of the studio's excitement towards depicting their founder: "We will finally see Walt come to life in a medium he loved and embraced," said Sean Bailey.

The 2013 Anaheim expo showed a heavy emphasis on live action movies, despite its animation history, with new movies such as Muppets Most Wanted, fairytale mash-up Into The Woods, and George Clooney's action-packed Tomorrowland all exhibiting and stirring up excitement even though release dates may be many months away.
