Insensitive Diana Poster Placement Causes Outrage

A 6x4ft poster for Diana, the film chronicling the last two years of the princess’s life, has been placed just yards away from where she tragically lost her life in a car accident, causing controversy and outrage.

Naomi Watts as DianaThe movie has failed miserably with the critics

The iconic gold-leafed Flame of Liberty, which would become her unofficial memorial piece, stands metres away.

"I really don't have any words to describe how I feel about this cynical and shameless attempt to publicize a film that should never have been made," said Rosa Monckton, who was one of Princess Diana's closest confidantes. (MailOnline)

She called the poster's placement "crass" and said she never expected the film's marketers to "stoop so low." "To have made a film so speculative and as this is disgusting enough, but to then advertise it on the spot at which she died is despicable," she said. "It is a terrible intrusion into her memory, not to mention the lives of her sons, whose feelings are often forgotten in these stories."

The movie opened in Paris this weekend (29/30 September) after being panned by the critics in the U.K. The film reached a low of 3% on Rotten Tomatoes and seems to have stayed there. Critics have described it as ‘heartless,’ with TIME Magazine simply writing: “Why, oh why, oh why? Oh. Why?"

It’s fair to say the whole project has been a disaster for Naomi Watts, who plays the late princess. For such a high profile role, she’ll be disappointed with the negative press and awful critical response of late. The ill-placed poster may just be the final straw.
