Lovato revealed her personal connection to the LGBT community.

"I've never spoken about this before, but my grandfather was a trailblazer himself," Lovato said before presenting an award to Orange Is the New Black Monday night at Logo TV's first Trailblazers event (quote via E!News). "He was brave enough to come out in the 1960s, and I feel that a lot of my spirit has come from him. He passed away a few years later and I only wish he could have been able to see all the progress that has been made.”

Orange Is the New Black stars Laverne Cox, Lea Delaria, Taryn Manning, Matt McGorry and Samira Wiley accepted their show's award on behalf of the series.

The Skyscraper singer also thanked the LGBT community for welcoming and embracing her. Embracing her is exactly what the community has done, especially in recent years, after the former Disney star came out with confessions about her struggles with eating disorders and substance abuse. These days, she is more involved than ever. Not only was Lovato the grand marshal of Los Angeles' gay pride parade earlier this month but she's set to perform at New York's pride festivities this weekend.
