David Cameron Gives Romantic Mixtape To G8 Leaders, Who's On It?

Prime Minister David Cameron has promoted young British musicians by giving all the G8 leaders a 10-track USB stick containing songs from Alt-J, Conor Maynard, Laura Mvula and Gabrielle Aplin with a very prominent theme of love.

Perhaps the Tory party leader is attempting to up his "cool" factor or seem down with the kids - the voters of tomorrow - having also recently been seen at Oxfordshire's Cornbury Festival and regularly sharing his music taste with reporters. The ten songs weren't selected by the busy PM however, rather the British Phonographic Industry (BPI) assembled the tracklist presented to each of the G8 leaders on a USB stick.

G8 leaders, including US President Barack Obama and Russian Federation President Vladimir Putin, were presented with the USB sticks with songs such as Rudimental's 'Feel The Love', Laura Mvula's 'Green Garden' and Tom Odell's 'Another Love.' Five of the ten songs have the word 'love' in the title, suggesting Mr. Cameron may have been intending to promote good spirits and cooperation amonst the world leaders.

Listen To Tom Odell's 'Another Love':

Tory Prime Minister Cameron isn't the most popular fan amongst the liberal ranks of music artists, with The Smiths' Morrissey and Johnny Marr having forbade the Conservative politician from listening to their music due to his political views, including his support of foxhunting, and have stated they're embarrassed that he describes himself as a fan.

Alt-J's 'Tesselate' Was Used On The G8 Mixtape:

Furthermore, Radiohead's Thom Yorke has threatened to "sue the living sh*t" out of the PM if he decides to use their songs to promote his party at the next election. Keane too have voiced their objection towards their songs being used to support the Conservative party after it was too late. As reported by The Guardian, drummer Richard Hughes wrote "Am horrified. I will not vote for them."

Cameron addressed his Smiths ban, reports The Telegraph, saying "I'm a huge music fan but obviously it's been something of a music crisis year for me because Morrissey and Johnny Marr have said I'm not allowed to listen to The Smiths anymore, so I've had to find some other stuff I am allowed to listen to." The PM also claims to have helped Mumford & Sons get their White House gig after he name-dropped them to Obama.

Having previously appeared on BBC Radio 4's Desert Island Discs programme, listing Radiohead, Pink Floyd and REM as his favourite bands, Mr. Cameron has said: "We should be extremely proud of how our world-leading music industry continues to go from strength to strength, with a record share of the global market and with British acts having the world's top selling album for five of the last six years."
