Everything You Need To Know About Christopher Nolan's 'Interstellar'

The Dark Knight trilogy director Christopher Nolan is notorious for keeping details about his films closely guarded until they’re finally released, which is extremely frustrating for us impatient Nolan fans. Particularly when we know that he's got something special in the works.  To tide us over we’ve managed to scrape together whatever information we can about his intriguing new sci-fi project, Interstellar.

At a recent ComicCon lunch which had been held in Nolan’s honor (a day in the life of a famous director, eh?), the director described the upcoming movie as “using interstellar travel to go to other places you couldn’t reach beyond space travel.” Interesting, we often wonder what it’s like outside of our galaxy, it will be interesting to see what Nolan comes up with. We’ve certainly not been disappointed by his offerings in the past, so we’re expecting great things from Interstellar. He’s definitely adept at creating spectacular and in-depth settings, Inception and The Dark Knight are testaments to that.

The plot of Interstellar is concerned with a crew of space travelers who journey through a worm hole. Starring Matthew McConaughey, whose character Nolan described as an “everyman”, as well as Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain, Bill Irwin, Ellen Burstyn, Michael Caine and Matt Damon, to name just a few, the cast can certainly be described as star studded.

Nolan’s new movie is allegedly being filmed with IMAX film photography as well as anamorphic 35mm photography, and the director has revealed that he used “real environments”, as well as filming the cast “like a documentary”. We can be sure that Interstellar shan’t be filmed for 3D, since Nolan commented “Just as stadium seating isn’t the best thing for a comedy, 3D isn’t the best for a shared audience.”

Nolan finished his ComicCon lunch vowing that he plans to provide a “unique approach” to the sound mix for Interstellar, and has plans to improve on the current sound technology, although we’ll have to speculate quite how he’ll do this.

Interstellar is due for release on November 7th, 2014 so we still have quite a while to wait, although hopefully more details will start to leak through before then. Nolan has been said to have gone to “extreme lengths” to guard the script, but we reckon with a little digging we’ll be able to unearth some more film facts before it’s finally released.
