Chris Pratt recently landed the role of a lifetime in Marvel's 'Guardians of the Galaxy,' which transformed him from a supporting actor into a legitimate movie star. However, even though the 35 year-old actor nailed his performance in the superhero flick, there was a time when he thought this wouldn't happen.

Prior to joining the Marvel universe, Pratt was best known for a supporting role on the TV show 'Parks and Recreation,' and for having small roles in films such as 'Zero Dark Thirty,' 'Moneyball' and 'Delivery Man.' But now as a leading man, Pratt can look back on his career and be pleased with all his hard work.

"I do believe in destiny. I'm Lucky," he told Esquire's September issue. "But I didn't walk into 7-Eleven, buy a scratch ticket, scratch it off, and star in 'Guardians of the Galaxy.'"

As well as auditioning for 'Guardians,' Pratt also spoke about an embarrassing attempt at trying to land a role in 'G.I Joe,' and from this experience he thought he would never become the superhero Peter Quill.

Pratt has received critical acclaim for his role in the Marvel film

"I didn't want to go and embarrass myself like I did when I auditioned for 'G.I. Joe' a couple of years previously," he continued. "I went in there, and halfway through I saw the director's eyes just glaze over. It made sense-I was a little heavy and out of shape. I was not gonna play someone from 'G.I. Joe.' I did not look like a G.I. Joe action figure come to life."

However, once securing the 'Guardians' role, Pratt transformed his body and got into the best shape of his life, which he showed off in an Instagram photo last year that quickly went viral. Since critics are already calling the latest Marvel film the studio's best ever, it is safe to say Pratt was definitely deserving of his starring role.
