It appears as though Carrie Underwood is getting quite a lot of hate tweets for taking on the role of Maria von Trapp in The Sound of Music remake. And while her live performance is only week away, she’s still getting pejorative messages via Twitter.

Carrie UnderwoodCarrie Underwood has received some Twitter-based grief surrounding her role in The Sound of Music

"I get hate tweets and stuff like, 'You're not Julie Andrews!'" Underwood, who is 30-years-old, told Entertainment Weekly. "I know I'm not Julie. Nobody is and I would never pretend that I was… I know my place."

The original Sound of Music movie was based on a Broadway production of the same name, but it was the cinematic adaptation that really captured fan’s hearts. It won 5 Academy Awards: Best Picture, Best Director for Robert Wise, Best Sound Mixing, Best Film Editing and of course, Best Score.

The origin of Underwood’s ‘hate’ tweets undoubtedly come from a section of fans that hold the film as sacrosanct, and are horrified that it’s getting revisited. But there’s no better to ease the nerves than to get an endorsement from the film’s darling herself, Julie Andrews.

"Fifty years later, it's time somebody had another crack at it,"Andrews, who is now 78-years-old told Zap2It. "I had the best time of my life doing it and it did wonderful things for me. I think it's great that it's being done again, but doing it live must be so daunting," she added. "I do hope it works for Carrie, because she's lovely and I'm a fan. I wish her well."
