Amid "Days of Future Past's" Box Office Success, Bryan Singer Rumored To Stay On With Franchise

X-Men: Days of Future Past has been making news with its stellar debut over the weekend. Despite some concern from Twentieth Century Fox following the allegations raised against director Bryan Singer, the film’s profits skyrocketed over its debut weekend, reaching $91.4 million domestically (according to Box Office Mojo) and anchoring Days of Future Past at the top of the box office.

Singer's labor of love is doing great, despite the scandal.

DoFP’s profits currently stand at $111 million in the US and $191 million internationally, making it the fourth biggest opening for 2014, behind Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Godzilla and The Lego Movie.

The success of the latest X-Men installment has meant that the production team is striking while the iron is hot and announcing some rather controversial news for the future of the franchise. According to screenwriter and executive producer Simon Kinberg, via Comic Book Resources, the current plan is for Singer to be kept on board and direct the upcoming X-Men: Apocalypse.

The recent allegations of sexual abuse of a minor, raised against Singer, had him removed from all Days of Future Past promotional appearances and for a minute, his role in the franchise seemed to be in jeopardy. The allegations rose up in April, with Singer being accused of repeatedly abusing a teenage boy at a series of parties in 1999. The case is yet to be resolved.

"The allegations against me are outrageous, vicious and completely false. I do not want these fictitious claims to divert ANY attention from 'X-Men: Days of Future Past,'" Singer said in a statement at the time. "This fantastic film is a labor of love and one of the greatest experiences of my career. So, out of respect to all of the extraordinary contributions from the incredibly talented actors and crew involved, I’ve decided not to participate in the upcoming media events for the film. However, I promise when this situation is over, the facts will show this to be the sick twisted shake down it is. I want to thank fans, friends and family for all their amazing and overwhelming support."

While Kinberg's comment clearly indicates that there is every intention for Singer to return, there is still no official word from Fox.
