Bruno Mars - Bruno Mars Honored To Perform At Super Bowl And Share Stage With The Red Hot Chili Peppers

While fans wonder whether Bruno Mars’ Super Bowl halftime show will live up to Beyonce’s from last year, Mars himself has much more modest goals. He just wants to get people dancing, as he said at a during a live press conference at the Rose Theater in New York City about the Pepsi halftime show. "Whatever happens, happens. I ain't scared if that's what you think."

Unlike Beyonce's show last year, Bruno Mars is keeping everything a surprise until the last minute.

Mars says that he wants to push the show’s creative boundaries and as such the Red Hot Chili Peppers were a natural fit for a collaboration.

“When we got the phone call the [NFL was] like ‘Hey, on these things we love to raise the stakes. You can have another artist there with you, would you like to do something like that?’ And the first band I thought of were the Red Hot Chily Peppers,” he explained. “I’ve been a fan of theirs for such a long time, I admire their career… They’re just a soulful band – not just musically, but as people. I sat down with Flea and he’s so passionate about music, even to this day, doing it so long. He’s still so passionate about creating music and performing. I wanna surround myself with guys like that forever, so it’s an honor to be sharing a stage with them.”

Red Hot Chilli Peppers, The Grove
Mars is honored to share a stage with "soulful" rockers RHCP.

About his own invitation to perform, Mars was brief and humble. He still sees himself as a new artist, the Locked Out of Heaven singer said, so it was very kind of the NFL to “give the new guy a shot.” “No, I haven’t been able to take it in,” a clearly excited Bruno Mars told the crowd of reporters in a video, shared by the Associated Press. He better start taking it in soon though, because the Super Bowl is fast approaching – the game, along with Mars’ show a performance of the Star-Spangled Banner by Rennee Flemming – will be broadcast on February 2nd. After Mars' Grammy win for best vocal pop album with Unorthodox Jukebox, expectations are high.
