Over 30 years since the release of the first Evil Dead film, the horror classic is now being resurrected for a new series airing on the Starz channel. Campbell played the role of Ash in three Evil Dead movies, the last being 1992’s Army of Darkness.

In a statement Campbell said “I’m really excited to bring this series to the Evil Dead fans worldwide — it’s going to be everything they have been clamouring for: serious deadite ass-kicking and plenty of outrageous humour.”

Original director Sam Raimi will executive produce the series, as well as writing and directing the first episode. “Evil Dead has always been a blast,” the director said after the series was announced. “Bruce, Rob, and I are thrilled to have the opportunity to tell the next chapter in Ash’s lame, but heroic saga. With his chainsaw arm and his ‘boomstick,’ Ash is back to kick some monster butt. And brother, this time there’s a truckload of it.”

The official synopsis for the series reads, “Bruce Campbell will be reprising his role as Ash, the stock boy, ageing lothario and chainsaw-handed monster hunter who has spent the last 30 years avoiding responsibility, maturity and the terrors of the Evil Dead."
