Brad Pitt's World War II Movie 'Fury': Everything You Need To Know

A stuntman on Brad Pitt's World War II movie Fury was stabbed in the shoulder with a bayonet and air lifted to hospital in Oxford this week. The 35-year-old was accidentally injured during a rehearsal at the movie's set in Pyrton, Oxfordshire. Not familiar with this movie? Read our 'Everything you need to know about Fury'

Earlier this month, a letter was sent to residents in the community on behalf of Pinewood Studios, warning them to expect "intermittent controlled gunfire and explosives" during the shoot for the movie.

A spokesman for the movie confirmed the stabbing happened as two stuntmen were filming at a converted farm.

Fury, already considered a frontrunner for the Oscars in 2015, is being helmed by David Ayer - an incredible filmmaker who last directed the stunning End of Watch with Jake Gyllenhall. It stars Brad Pitt as a battle-hardened army sergeant named Wardaddy who commands a Sherman tank and its crew on a mission behind enemy lines.

The movie has been causing considerable buzz in Hollywood for a couple of years now and Sony Pictures emerged as the victors in a high profile auction for the rights in April 2013. Initially, it was purchased by Bill Block's QED for $1 million though after getting assurances that Brad Pitt would lead the cast, it became one of the hottest scripts in town. The budget is thought to be more than $80 million.

According to Deadline.com, the action takes places between 1945 as the Nazi regime collapses and the five-man crew of an American tank called Fury battles a desperate German army.

"We loved this script from the moment we read it," explained President of Columbia, Doug Belgrad said. "This is epic and authentic storytelling at its finest and we couldn't be more excited to be in business with David Ayer and Brad Pitt on this incredible story of sacrifice and heroism."

Sony began to assemble the supporting cast after securing the rights in April, first landing Shia LaBeouf before securing Logan Lerman - the young actor best known for his roles in the Percy Jackson films.

Scott Eastwood, the 27-year-old son of Clint Eastwood, also signed on to play Sergeant Miles. He had previously starred in a string of his father's movies, including Flags of Our Fathers, Gran Torino, Invictus and Trouble With the Curve.

Describing his project - which is already drawing comparisons to Quentin Tarantino's Inglorious Basterds - Ayer said his goal is to "bring a fresh execution to the genre. What these men went through is worthy of a complex, honest portrayal. This will have incredible, visceral action and complex rich characters. I plan to bring tank combat to life in a way that lands with a modern audience."

Fury is set for release in November 2014. Oscar-bait.
