How Long Can 'Ride Along' Maintain Its Box Office Mojo?

It was a tame weekend for the box office Friday through Sunday, with Ride Along keeping its top-spot status for a second week, according to figures compiled by Box Office Mojo.

I, Frankenstein only managed to fall in sixth with a disappointing return of $8.6m. Considering the horror/action/thriller was made on $65m and took on a huge marketing push in the last few weeks, Lionsgate won’t be pleased.

There wasn’t much change from last week’s top five; Lone Ranger, featuring Mark Wahlberg, kept on to the second spot with $12.9m – an impressive feat considering the modern war epic is in its fifth week of release. It’s now doubled its production budget of $40m with nearly $94m domestically.

In third, The Nut Job added $12.1m to take its domestic total to $40m, ensuring a third place finish in the box office standings, while Frozen managed to rise a space into fourth despite being in its 10th week. The Disney animation has now accumulated $810m from the global box office.

Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit built upon a disappointing debut by adding $9m. The espionage thriller hasn’t enthralled audiences, while the critics deemed it a lukewarm entry to the enduring franchise.

The rest of the top ten looks something like this: American Hustle appears to be losing its box-office mojo somewhat and dropped a place into seventh with $7m; The Wolf of Wall Street pulled in a further $5.4m to grab eighth; August: Osage County is ninth with $5m and Devil’s Due rounds off the top 10 with $2.7m.
